TEC Earns StormReady Supporter Certification
March 2, 2018
The National Weather Service and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration recognized TEC Manufacturing & Distribution Services as a StormReady Supporter, a distinction granted to communities, utilities and organizations that enhance public safety by focusing on storm awareness and preparedness planning.
TEC already was going through the process of being certified when Hurricane Harvey struck Texas in August 2017, said Archie Lopez, TEC director of strategic initiatives. TEC began monitoring the storm days in advance of landfall, coordinating the stockpiling of extra supplies with alliance warehouses and co-ops. Over the course of the week, the association moved 52 truckloads of poles and 16 truckloads of other supplies.
TEC joins Nueces EC and more than 190 organizations in Texas designated StormReady, defined by the NWS as actively engaged in weather safety and preparedness.
“Achieving this certification is another way TEC shows our commitment to providing our members with support 24/7, especially when impending storms may affect the grid,” said Johnny Andrews, TEC chief operations officer.
