May 15, 2013
Seven Texas electric cooperatives and Texas Electric Cooperatives were honored during the Spotlight on Excellence celebration May 15 at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s 2013 CONNECT Conference in Orlando, Fla. In all, Texas co-ops received 31 Spotlight Awards for excellence or merit.
TEC won in three categories. Texas Co-op Power won an award of Excellence for statewide magazine. In addition, an Award of Excellence for the magazine feature story “The Kings and Queens of Brownsville” [June 2012] and an Award of Merit for feature story “Campground Comrades” [February 2012]. In addition, TEC claimed an Award of Merit for the TEC Report, the association’s monthly newsletter.
For the past 25 years, co-ops from across the country have competed in the Spotlight on Excellence Awards program, hosted by the Council of Rural Electric Communicators and NRECA. Through the program, co-ops vie for recognition in 20 communications categories, including writing, design, overall publication and the recently added “best event.”
CONNECT is an annual conference organized by NRECA for co-op communications personnel from across the United States. More than 450 attended the Orlando conference. The 2014 conference is slated for May 13–16 in San Antonio.
